The Year-long Teaching Plan Teacher Workshop
Plan and organize your entire school year with practical and effective teaching solutions

State standards, district curriculum guides, standardized testing, overwhelmingly long textbooks or no textbooks at all, benchmarks, continuing education, staff and IEP meetings, children with special needs and/or limited English, lack of parental support, and a new curriculum requirement at every turn. How is the classroom teacher expected to cope with these demands? Many of us are surviving from one day to the next, some plan for weeks at a time, and there are the rare teachers who are planned months ahead of time.
However, if you really want to feel as though you are in control of your life as a teacher, The Year-long Teaching Plan is an essential component. In this class, you will organize your school year from the first day to the last. In short, this class will allow you to begin the next school year with the attitude, "I know what I have to do, and I will get it done!"
What can you expect to learn?
- Develop a school-year calendar that identifies every test date, writing assignment, and project.
- Coordinate standards with your textbooks to assure that you are teaching what must be taught.
- Create a database of all vocabulary to be taught for the year.
- Get a handle on state standards so you control them rather than having them control you.
- Plan to have papers corrected and returned to students before each vacation begins.
- Identify the essential understandings that you must reinforce throughout the year.
- Begin your summer vacation with a "plan in hand" for the upcoming school year.
- Generate universal homework plans for the school year.
